Wisdom Comes from Giving

My main teaching and my main work is Charity and the focus of Tibetan Buddhism... All of those teachings are based on Charity. Wisdom comes from Giving. It is the hardest thing in the world to do. So it's our Bodhicitta, Buddha nature that allows us to do this. Money can make you greedy; it can make people greedy, money itself. But money is a source of all wealth all prana. It is not inherently negative; it is a vehicle for Giving. If you give it, you receive it. Its magic is so powerful yet, if you hold onto it, it will take away Buddha nature and it will destroy you. It is made to be given away, to be shared." An extract of a teaching Buddha Maitreya the Christ gave to Nyagre Khamtsen of Drepung Loseling Buddhist University in 2002

Buddha Maitreya the Christ and his wife Tara started helping exiled Tibetan Refugees and Tibetan Monasteries in 1994, when they established the Sanatan Dharma Center in Kathmandu, Nepal, near the famous Boudha Stupa. Over the years this center was home to many exiled Tibetans and the base for extensive charitable work throughout Nepal, India, and Tibet. In 1996, Buddha Maitreya the Christ established the Church of Shambhala Vajradhara Maitreya Sangha, a 501c(3) non-profit American Buddhist Church, offering the opportunity for western students to lead more spiritual and service orientated lives as monks and nuns. The Church represents both East and West and the tenets of Christianity and Buddhism, with charitable activity and harmlessness as the fundamental teachings. Around this time, Buddha Maitreya also founded "The New Group of World Servers Trust" as a UK Registered Charity operating from his Dharma Center in Glastonbury, UK.From 2000 onwards Buddha Maitreya has been financially supporting over 25 monastic projects, including large monastery reconstruction projects, and provides regular donations to hundreds of individuals in these countries for food, shelter, healthcare and education. In 2006, Buddha Maitreya the Christ and Tara found land in Lake County, Northern California on which to construct their first American Monastery - Buddha Maitreya the Christ’s Shambhala Monastery for Planetary Healing. At the present day, Buddha Maitreya the Christ and Tara direct a small, established group of "Sangha" (western Buddhist monks and nuns) and gives regular "Dharshan" teachings and weekly OM Meditations live online from the Monastery to dharma students from around the world to help them attain greater discernment and live a more Soulful life. The Sangha dedicate their daily service to handcrafting, distributing, and helping people learn about Buddha Maitreya’s Shambhala Healing & Meditation Tools, running the Shambhala Life Extending Wellness Center and overseeing private retreats. Today there are many more charitable projects including free clinics in Nepal and the support of local food charities in Lake County.
